Originally from the UK, Shema has recently relocated to Canada in order to further her professional development as a Bellydancer. She has danced all her life- from English Country Dance through to Cuban Rumba and Samba but has specialized in Egyptian Bellydance for the past 7 years.
In 2005 Shema launched Dar Tangerina Bellydance School in the UK, teaching beginners through to advanced levels and putting on regular Arabic themed events to promote Bellydance and give students an opportunity to perform with live music as well as watching other professionals on stage.
Shema has studied with many great teachers such as Raqia Hassan, Yasmina Ramzy, Ozgen Ozgec and Amel Tafsout and continues to visit the UK, Morocco and North America to expand her expertise. She also studies Circus Skills (Contortionism and Trapeze) which feed her fusion performances. Shema is well-known for her use of fire in her shows and in particular her Fire Sword Act which can be seen on YouTube. She also plays violin and is now studying with Bassam Bishara (Arabesque Academy) on Kemanga tuning enabling her to play Arabic music.
She has performed and taught at events, festivals and shows all over England and Toronto and is also now a member of the RS Divas Troupe in Toronto.
Shema teaches ‘The Elegant Art of Bellydance’ and her students learn how to control and move their bodies in a gentle yet powerful way, respecting the strength, sensuality and humour of the dance; all supported by an intense technique which builds up over time to produce a well-rounded dancer.
